Programs
ArtVan provides many diverse, enriching programs:
In the neighborhoods
We go directly into low income housing developments to provide the healing powers of art to those who need it most! This way kids do not have to find money or transportation to access fun, productive, healthy activities.
Afterschool
We setup in-depth afterschool art programs to give kids options in this sports-centered sphere. Through our curriculum, kids learn different art techniques, go on fieldtrips to artist studios, galleries, and museums, and create a positive self image by displaying their work in local venues. We have had great success with AVAX (ArtVan Artists Xtraordinarie), a program at Bath Middle School that has been going strong now for 3 years!
ArtVan Creative Council
Kids who have graduated from our AVAX program and are committed to supporting the ArtVan join our Creative Council at Morse High. They learn how to create artistic merchandise that is sold to help fund our programs. In the 2007-2008 school year they worked with Mary Anne Lagasse from Snowy Owl in Brunswick, crafting designs in wax to be cast in silver! This year they are being mentored by Bath potter Heather Bertrand from De Terre (her store and studio are locted on 47 Commercial Street in Bath). If you are intersted in purchasing some of their creations, contact us or go check them out at De Terre!
