ArtVan Receives a Gift of Goodness From Tom’s of Maine
Bath, ME – ArtVan is a 2013 recipient of a gift of $20k from Tom’s of Maine whose Giving for Goodness program offers selected non-profits a portion of it’s 10% of profits. The generous gift will be used to support two crucial areas of ArtVan programs: non-direct program hours and $10k towards the purchase of a new van that will literally help keep the arts rolling for local kids.
Started in 2004, ArtVan is a mobile arts therapy program, led by Jamie Silvestri a registered Art Therapist along with professional staff and volunteers that brings the arts to kids and teens who might not otherwise have access to afterschool art programs and materials. Currently the program serves youth in Biddeford, Bath, Brunswick, Lewiston, and Auburn. With support from Tom’s of Maine, ArtVan will be able to reinforce programming with focus on development which is important to keep the nonprofit sustainable and also to continue to cultivate relevant programming for children and teens living in an ever changing world. The remaining funds will be utilized as a matching grant challenge to raise $30k to purchase the next ArtVan. This is a step towards ensuring that the program can continue to serve local kids for many years to come, to continue to bring the arts directly to neighborhoods, community centers, and to the places where there is a need for youth to access wellness through art. As Silvestri expressed “this is a huge help for us to secure our work as a permanent fixture in the Maine communities we serve.”
